Rotorua is centrally located in the North Island and has something for everyone. It considers itself to be one of the top adventure tourism destinations in New Zealand.

There are 16 glorious lakes in Rotorua for you to explore and to play in, boat on, dive in, fish in, water-sports on, swim in, walk around and discover the history of. There are many companies offering cruises, tours and different experiences.

Mountain biking is extremely well-catered for in Rotorua. Families will love the all-ability mountain bike trails in the Whakarewarewa Forest. Enthusiasts will find the extreme action rides thrilling. Everybody will love the majestic Redwoods and the variety of forest trails.

Skyline Rotorua offers a big draw for visitors; from the breath-taking views from the gondola leading up to the Skyline's all-weather upper complex to the 3-wheeled luge carts set on 5km of tracks differing in difficulty. The skyswing is not for the faint-hearted as it swings high above the impressive Rotorua landscape at speeds of about 120kph. Also in the complex is the Skyvue 4D motion theatre giving the sensation of zooming through New Zealand's rivers and canyons.

Families will love learning about flora and fauna in the native bush or visit a working kiwi hatchery and nursery. Also a trip to the world famous Agrodome to experience New Zealand agriculture and organic farm tour is not to be missed. The area has many Maori cultural attractions where the family can see a cultural performance, visit a marae, listen to the region's legends, learn the traditional art of weaving, sample indigenous foods or even learn how to do the haka.

Amazeme maze in Paradise Valley promotes old-fashioned family fun with its 1.4 km of maze hedging, animal petting, aviary and great playground.
