Christchurch is known as the Garden City, so take time to wander through Hagley Park and our botanical gardens while you're here. Although Christchurch suffered from the earthquake in February, it is still a beautiful city to visit and is the gateway to New Zealand's South Island.
Christchurch is welcoming visitors with open arms. It's airport was not damaged in the earthquakes and provides you with easy
access to the South Island.
Only minutes from Christchurch Airport is the Antarctic Centre, well worth a visit to experience the snow and ice and see the penguins.
And if you're into your history the Airforce Museum is well worth a visit.
You can enjoy a punt down the River Avon or enjoy some great skiing at Mt Hutt skifield. Further afield you can revitalise your soul in the natural springs at Hamner or visit see the whales in Kaikoura.
Wander over to the beautiful French town of Akaroa, see the Hectors Dolphin and enjoy fine seafood by the sea. Or why not enjoy the TransAlpine Train Trip from Christchurch, through Arthurs Pass to Greymouth? Enjoy the journey from one coast of New Zealand's South Island to the other - you can either come back the same day or spend a few days exploring the West Coast, visiting Punakaiki and the glaciers.
